The village has two pubs (both serving food), a Post Office & General Stores, a bakery and tearooms. There is also an excellent National Park Visitor Centre at Danby Lodge - a historic building set in 13 acres of riverside pasture, with facilities which include exhibitions, nature trails and tea rooms. Danby also boasts the ruins of a 14th Century Castle and the only remaining working water mill on the River Esk. The scenic Esk Valley Railway line runs through the village on its way to Whitby. The quaint moorland villages of Hutton-le-hole and Lastingham, the market town of Pickering, the City of York and the Yorkshire Coast villages of Staithes, Saltburn and Robin Hood's Bay are all within easy touring distance. An imposing sandstone farmhouse, situated in open countryside near the hamlet of Liverton, with fine views towards the coast 2 miles away. A wonderful property, Liverton Lodge has many original features including fine oak panelling, exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings. There are two large sitting rooms, one with an open fire and window seats overlooking the lodge's large walled garden. Upstairs there are lovely views, across the garden to the woods and farmland beyond. Ideally placed for beach holidays, bird watching & walking. The historic town of Whitby, the coastal villages of Staithes & Runswick Bay as well as the National Park are all easily reached. Accommodation Four bedrooms: 2 x double with kingsize beds (one with basin), 2 x twin (one with basin), further attic twin room available upon request (NB: attic room not suitable for young children as steep staircase). Ground floor bathroom with bath with shower over, WC and basin. First floor bathroom with bath and basin, separate WC. Fitted farmhouse style kitchen with adjacent dining area. Separate utility room. Grand piano. Two large airy sitting rooms overlooking the garden, one with open fire. NB. Adjoining the house is a flat (single resident). Amenities Oil fired central heating and heating from open fire in sitting room. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, colour TV, video, CD player etc. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Two cots, highchair and stairgate on request. Off road parking for 4 cars. Large walled garden with lawn and flower beds. One well behaved dog welcome. Sorry no smoking. Shops and pub 1 mile. |
